Comment: Im Looking For My gr gr gr grandmother Jane Noble Married To Melancton Jones She Was Born In Dresden Washinton County New York birth year is 1842 she shows up in the census in 1880 living in indian lake new york hamilton county but it dosent say shes indian but how i know is i have a real old paper handed down from my grandmothers fathers sister aunt frances on this paper she writes melancton jones married freeone noble full blooded mohawk indian father was tribal cheif para gora klees freeone had 2 brothers prairie chicken and two kettles know i know indian censuses did start till 1860 when they started to show up but im beliveing she was raised or adopted by charles noble and anna waters because she shows up as jane noble not freeone but i will belive what i have on my paper written from my aunt frances because that was her grandmother so she probably remembers her any help would be appriciated i was told by a genealogist that indians had two names there native name and there english name prior to 1860 indians were also written down as white if they lived in a white populated area and not on a reservation any help would be appriciated you can reach me directly at mchbrg6@aol.com
