Ancestors Name: BROWN, Brightwater
Nee:
Date of Birth:
State: Pennsylvania
Comment: My mother is a BROWN from Fayette County PA. Wendell BROWN and his sons Thomas who served in the Virginia Regiment with Washington, Manus and Adam are known to have lived in South Union Twp. and German Twp. The BROWNS supplied Washington at Ft. Necessity. We believe that Manus aka. Emanuel, had a Mingo wife. According to family legend, the Mingo Grandmother's name may have been "Brightwater" although this seems to be a common name. The BROWNS maintained a tract of land in South Union Twp that continued to be the family farm until the mid to late 1960s. My Grandfather Wade Hampton BROWN was born on that farm in 1877. My Great Aunt Oceola BROWN-KNAPP is known to have a Prayer Shawl and kept herbal recipies and performed "rituals" that my Grandmother, an Irish Catholic and aunt Oceola's sister-in-law, regarded as "Pagan"! We have also discovered that there have been relics removed from burial mounds on the Brown farm authorized by another Great Aunt Lulu BROWN. This "grave robber" has a decendant living in Florida that has in his possession a "chanupa" that belongs to the BROWN family, my mother. We are just looking for any information on who the "Brightewater" might be. The French/ Indian War treaty returned Native women back to the Nations and there is no record of Brightwaters death or burial. The Latter Day Saints record a "Mrs. Manus BROWN" as being buried in the "Redstone Cemetery" in Brownsville but the dates do not match.

He was later removed from his biological parents and adopted by the DAVIS family. He later married a woman by the name of Edith Maria SMITH. I am trying to research my ancestory on my father's side. My grandfather and grandmother gave birth to 13 children. One of them my father, Thomas L. DAVIS on June 4, 1947. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
