Ancestors Name: Tom, HONEYCOMB
Nee:
Date of Birth: 1806 and 1818
State: Pennsylvania
Comment: Thomas /BROOMALL/ "HONEYCOMB Tom" was born into the Tuscarora Tribe, part of the Iroquois Nation located in Northwestern PA and central NY state. It is not know exactly when he was born- family history says about 1820; but census data indicates his birth at various times between.many Quaker families of the area supported a mission in Northwestern NY state. This mission was to the Seneca Indians (also part of the Iroquois Nation) to teach the Senecas the art of farming. This mission was a little settlement called Tunessassa and it was managed by Thomas Dutton from 1808 to 1813... The Quakers would send the indian boys, about age 15, with parents' approval, to live with Quaker families of Philadelphia, and these boys would return home at the age of 21. Whether or not this is the way Thomas found his way hereThomas did not take the Broomall name until he became a Christian August 29th 1847

Ancestors Name: BROWN, Alfred W. and Alfred W. Jr.
Nee:
Date of Birth: about 1796 and 1819
State: Virginia
Comment: This is a shot in the dark but thought I would try. It has always been passed along in the family that there is Am. Indian in our ancestry. The older Alfred is my ggg-grandfather and his father'name was George BROWN b. 1770 in Fauquier Co. Virginia, m. Susanna GREEN or GREENE 1795. We can find no record of marriage for the elder Alfred and Alfred Jr. had all his children by a first wife (Nancy E. MERRELL) named in an obituary of his son. But so far, after much searching, we can find no mention of her in any official records. I am wondering if either of them may have been married to an Indian. Forgive my ignorance on this matter, but I don't know if these marriages were recorded in the traditional way, did the Indian women choose or have to take an English name when married? If anyone recognizes any of these names from family history or records, or has any advice to give, please contact me. Thank you.
