Ancestors Name: KIRKLAND, Alcy
Nee: ODOM
Date of Birth: 1750 ?
State: North Carolina
Comment: I am seeking information on Alcy KIRKLAND d.b. probably 1750 in North Carolina or Virginia. Her father was Abraham ODOM. His land was adjacent to a Town of the Meherrin Nation. I do not know when exactly she and Benjamin KIRKLAND were married, but I believe it was in one of these States, Virginia, North Carolina, or South Caroina. Their eldest child Sussanah was born in 1768. So perhaps between 1765 and 1767. No one in the family knows exactly when Alcy was born perhaps in 1750. The family settled on lands on along Clouds, Mine, Dry, and Indian Creeks, tributaries of the Edisto River which flowed through the following counties Barnwell, Edgefield, and Orangeburg. How may I find information to prove this lineage? Many family members believe that Alcy and her mother in law Sibyl who was also an ODOM were Native Americans, from the Meherrin Nation. Now the Meherrin were identified in Colonial Records as the Susquahanna Nation. The families originally came from Virginia, through North Carolina into these Districts of South Carolina. Their children & grandchildren finally settled in the Southeast especially Henry County Alabama. The author James R. Peacock stated in his book KIRKLAND FAMILY ROOTS: that Alcy and possibly her mother in law were of the Meherrin Nation. The family originated in Virginia came through North Carolina, and then sold their holdings in that State before settling in South Carolina. I am sorry this is so long, but I do not know much more than what I have been told.

Ancestors Name: GRAY, John
Nee:
Date of Birth: 1873
State: Unknown
Comment: Trying to locate John GRAY, Delaware Indian married to Mary(?). This union produced 5 children named Johnnie Albert (1910),Charley Ross (1912), Mary Frances (1914), Jesse Joseph (1916) and Emmanuel (1920). He worked for the railroad around Minneapolis, MN (1910 & 1920), Canada (1912-14), St Louis, MO (1916), Colorado, Florida and Oklahoma. Mary left the family in Minneapolis, MN (1920). John left the area with the children ending up in Erick, OK. The two eldest boys (Johnnie and Charley) attended Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, OK for a short period (1920-21) and baby Emmanual died and was buried in Shawnee, OK during the same period. The family was in Erick, OK when John died leaving the children orphan. We believe family ties are around Anadarko, Nowata and Delaware, OK. There is one survivor (Charley 1912) hoping to find information and relatives. Please contact Juanita email worsham_mr@msn.com
