Ancestors Name: MOSBY, Mattie
Nee: Bishop
Date of Birth: 1851
State: Iowa
Comment: I am searching for a family link to the fox tribe. The family lore was that my great grandmother was a full blooded fox.We have some sketchy information. Iowa Census records state that she was born in Indiana and spent time in Missouri after she married James Thomas Mosby in 1873. One of their daughters was named Ida Lee Mosby. She married Edward Street Varner in 1903. They moved to Boone County Iowa around 1915-1917. One of their sons was Kenneth L. Varner, my father. I have been unsuccessfull in tracking down birth or wedding records of Mattie and James. The Mosbys were from Missouri and it seems the county hall of records was burned to the groung during the Civil War, making that connection a dead end so far.I am continuing my research, any information would be welcomed.

Comment: Josephine LESTER was born in Kansas Jan. 3 , 1854. She later lived at the Meskwaki Settlement (formerly known as Sac & Fox) in Tama, Iowa. My grandmother's journals say Josephine was 1/2 Sac & Fox and lived at the reservation in Tama. Josephine married David L. COX in Iowa and had five children. Josephine died June 30, 1890 and is buried at Cottonwood Cemetery in Lake City, Iowa. Who were Josephine's parents? Any help is appreciated!

Ancestors Name: LOTT, Jemima
Nee: MCGUIRE
Date of Birth: 1829
State: Iowa
Comment: Jemima died while giving birth to her third child, a boy. We have a newspaper clipping saying that members of the Mesquakie (Fox) tribe used to visit the family and we know that Jemima was of "Indian" heritage, so I'm making an assumption that she was Mesquakie (Fox).
