Comment: She is half if not full Native American. I have found her marriage to John H (W) Brinegar in 1868 in Cedar Missouri but I cannot find anything before that about her. She is originally from Kentucky but moved to Missouri where they got married, they then moved down to McLennan County Texas in 1880, she passed away in 1889. Her final resting place is in McLennan County, Waco, Texas at the First Street Cemetery with J W Brinegar.

Ancestors Name: AUSTIN, Mary Elizabeth
Nee: Sutherland/Southerland
Date of Birth: December, 1849
State: Alabama
Comment: Mary Elizabeth Sutherland, bn. abt. 1849 in ? may have been 10 yrs. younger than her husband, Wm. Austin, bn. 1839. Rumor is these young lovers ran away from her family who treatened to kill Wm. for her young age. They may have been Uncle/Niece or first cousins. Austin may have rustled horses in Tx.and stopped to rest at relatives where Mary Eliz. lived. Every family has a version of this, with 3-5 Austin brothers helping them escape, by splitting up, one went to Ga-one to Tn-and our run-aways coming into central Al. and having a family of 7 children. It was said that Mary Elizabeth took good care of her home and family, worked hard and was never heard to complain. She didn't meddle in others business, just tended to her own, and took a small "nip from the jug, only when absolutely necessary". She had pride and was known for always wearing her white apron. Someone named Rock Austin would show-up to check on them, maybe from Winder, Ga. (Walton-Gwinnett Co. area). Thanks for any help. Linda Hood Austin

Ancestors Name: IRVING, Sally
Nee: Unknown
Date of Birth: Unknown
State: Alabama
Comment: Sallie Irving is the name of my great-grandmother. She was born in Alabama and was, from what my mother has told me, a black creek indian. She married my grandfather, Rudus, Wells. Sallie had two sisters, Edie and Minnibell Irving. Sallie and Rufus had ten (10) children (Emma, Beatrice, Edie, Ruby and Perline, Frank, Irie, Lee, Joe an Olin). They may have lived in Pickens County, Alabama at some point because that is were my grandmother, Ruby, was born. Anything you can tell me about my great-grandmother and her Indian roots will be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Ancestors Name: COX, Charlie
Nee:
Date of Birth: 1873
State: Arkansas
Comment: Looking for Charlie (Charley) COX born in Hot Springs, ARK. Married in Forrest City, ARK August of 1896 to Mattie Lou BUSIX. Charlie was a full blood Creek and Mattie 3/4 Creek (we think). Charlie died in Forest City abt 1898. Mattie Lou a daughter of John C. BUSIC and Alice JOHNSON. Mattie had a sister named Maude. The family is believed to have owned and operated the Canton Hotel. Family history is that the hotel was visited by President Roosevelt. We think the president never visited a hotel in Ark., but may have in the Dakotas.
