While we know our northern friends may not feel it, in the South, Spring is
here. So we thought we'd share a few of our gardening sites appropriate
for this time of the year. Along with gardening, there's grilling, and getting
ready to diet so that you can fit back into that bathing suit this summer!
A complete listing of all the Indian
villages, towns and settlements as listed in Handbook of Americans North of
Mexico.
Gangasco (from shingascui, 'level, wet, and
grassy ground'. Heckewelder). A village of the Powhatan confederacy formerly
near the present Eastville, Northampton co., Va. It was the most important
village on the lowest part of the E. shore in 1722. The inhabitants, who were of
the Accomac or the Accohanoc tribe, were known as Gingaskins and remained there
until they were driven off in 1833, being then much mixed with negroes. (J. M.)
