While we know our northern friends may not feel it, in the South, Spring is
here. So we thought we'd share a few of our gardening sites appropriate
for this time of the year. Along with gardening, there's grilling, and getting
ready to diet so that you can fit back into that bathing suit this summer!

Gaibanipitea. Apparently a former settlement of the
Pima or of an allied tribe, possibly the Sobaipuri, described as situated on a
hill on the w. bank of the Rio San Pedro. Visited by Father Kino in 1697.
Probably identical with the ruins known as Santa Cruz, a few miles w. of
Tombstone, s. Ariz.
Gohate. A former Maricopa rancheria on the Rio Gila in
s. Arizona; visited by Sedelmair in 1744 (Bancroft, Ariz, and N. Mex., 366,
1889). Apparently distinct from Cohate.
Guanabepe. The Yavapai name of a tribe, evidently
Yuman, on the lower Colorado in Arizona or California, in the 18th century.
Guanacos (Span.: Los Guanacos.) A group of ruined
pueblos 8 m. s. of Tempe, in the Salt River valley, Ariz. So named from a number
of figurines, resembling the guanaco, found there. Gushing in Compte-rendu
Internat. Cong. Am. vii, 178, 1890.
Gubo. A former rancheria, probably of the Papago,
visited by Father Kino in 1694; situated 13 leagues E. of Sonoita, which was on
the Rio Salado of Sonora, just below the Arizona boundary.
Guevavi. A former Sobaipuri settlement and the seat of
a Spanish mission established about 1720-32; situated on the w. bank of Rio
Santa Cruz, below Tubac, at or near the present Nogales, Arizona-Sonora
boundary. In 1750 it was plundered by the Indians and abandoned, but was
reoccupied two years later as a mission under the protection of Tubac. In
1760-64 Guevavi contained 111 native in 1772, 86, and with its visitas
(Calabazas, Jamac, Sonoita, and Tumacacori ), 337. It was abandoned be fore
1784, Tumacacori becoming head of the mission establishment. (F. W. H.)

Gutubur. A Pima rancheria visited by Father Kino in
1694; definite locality unknown. Kino in Doc. Hist. Mex., 4th s., i, 251,
1856.
