Wold, Ariss Jeanette Jones Englund Crow – Obituary

Joseph, Oregon

Ariss Jeanette Jones Englund Crow Wold of Joseph died January 31, 2007, at her home in Joseph. She was 90.

A memorial celebration will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Joseph City Park, followed by a barbecue potluck dinner. Hamburgers and hot dogs, with condiments, will be provided. Salads, desserts, etc. for pot luck would be appreciated. There will be tables at the park but card or portable tables in addition would be welcome. Any flowers ( her favorite was purple) can be delivered to the park or the Joseph United Methodist Church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Joseph United Methodist Church or P.E.O. Chapter R.

Mrs. Wold was born at Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, Mont., to Grace Jane Elliot Cowan Jones and William Wallace Jones. She lived in Box Elder, Mont. until age three, when the family moved to Havre, Mont.

She graduated from Havre High School in 1934, Montana State Northern University in 1936 and Willamette University in 1938 with a bachelor of science in music education. She was a founding member of Mu Phi Epsilon, National Music Honorary, at Willamette.

She taught school in Hood River from 1938 to 1940. In 1940 she married Roy Alexander Englund, moved to Portland and taught at Lincoln High School. Her daughter Elodie Jane was born in 1953. Roy passed away in 1963.

She married Victor Michael Crow in 1971. Victor passed away in 1975. She married Roland Hansen Wold in 1977. Roland passed away in 1990. Her sister Helen also preceded her in death.

Her life pursuit was music and she was an excellent pianist. She was a member of Centenary Wilber and Sunnyside United Methodist Churches while in Portland and both Joseph Conservative Baptist Church and Joseph United Methodist Church during her time in Joseph.

She belonged to many service and charitable organizations while in Portland and later in Joseph, mostly focused on women and education. Near to her heart was P.E.O. Chapter R of Joseph and previously Chapter AH of Portland.

Ariss is survived by her daughter Elodie Jane Cadonau of Joseph, her grandson Robert Wayne Coulson, also her late husband Roland’s five sons and three daughters.
