John W. Yankey Was Haines Pioneer
John Willis Yankey, 73, a resident of Haines, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Mr. Yankey was born June 29, 1885, in Salem, Dent County, Mo. He was the son of William R. and Mary E. Yankey.
When he was three years of age the family moved to Oregon, settling near Haines. Mr. Yankey had been a farmer all his life.
He was married to Hattie C. Hearing Sept. 8, 1908. Mrs. Yankey preceded him in death him in death June 21, 1945.
He is survived by two sons, Jack and Keith Yankey, both of Baker; three daughters, Mona Aldrich of Haines, Neva Coyle and Nena Davis all of Baker; one brother William Yankey; one sister, Louise Simons, Haines; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at West & Company chapel. Rev. Tom Foster will officiate. Interment will be in the Haines cemetery.
