Biographical Sketch of William G. Callison

Was born in Daviess county, Missouri, August 8, 1846, and is the son of Franklin Callison, whose biography appears elsewhere. Our subject was educated chiefly in his native county, finishing his scholastic training with a two years’ course at the excellent academy at Gallatin. After leaving school he engaged, with his father, in merchandising at Jamesport until 1878, when he was admitted to the bar and began the practice of the legal profession in the courts of this and adjoining counties. This business he has since con-tinned with good success. In addition to his professional business Mr. Callison gives personal attention to his large stock-farm, comprising some 1,500 acres of land, sufficient to accommodate more than a thousand head of live stock. He has six hundred. head of fine cattle at the present time, September, 1881, on his excellent pastures. He is a large shipper of both cattle and hogs to eastern markets and by his sound judgment and good management makes this branch of his business very profitable. He is an active, public spirited man and has done much for the improvement and advancement of Jamesport. He is, perhaps, the largest owner of valuable real estate in the city.

Mr. Callison was married, in Jamesport, January 2, 1873, to Miss Elizabeth, daughter of Robert C. Williams. She was born in this county, March. 28, 1852. They have two children : Grace. and Robert E.

The subject of this sketch is a thorough, hardworking Democrat, whose efforts have done much to keep that party in power in this county. He is at present attorney of the city of Jamesport and collector of the township revenue. He is, also, one of the proprietors and editors of the Weekly Gazette, (Democratic), of Jamesport. He is a clever and courteous gentleman, who enjoys the confidence and respect of all who know him.
