Mark Haskell Fourth Generation

MARK4 (Mark,3 Marks2 Mark1), baptized March 16, 1729; d. Aug. 29, 1811; lived at the ferry. He first learned the earthern-ware business at Danvers ; but through dislike of his occupation he removed back to Marblehead, and assumed that of a shoreman. Aug. 29, 17555, he sold to Susannah, widow of Mark Haskell, his father, a house and land, bounded S. W. on the street by the new meeting-house (now Unitarian), 28 feet S. on Strikers land, E. 011 Batchelder’s land, Mark to a stake &c., leaving 22 feet on land of said 13 inches from the south corner of “my house.”

Aug. 25, 1755, he bought of the above-said Susannah Haskell, who was administuatrix of the estate of Philip Hubbard, “the late mansion house and land formerly belonging to said Hubbard, bounded S. on the street [Mugford Street] opposite the new meeting-house, N. W. on Phillips, E. on Batchelder, and S. E. on Striker.” Sept. 2,1765, he bought of Mary White, widow (probably of Thomas) one acre of land at the ferry “near Noggs head,” and bounded on the sea.

Sept. 8, 1173, he sold to Capt. Jona. Glover, of Marblehead, merchant, one half right of a lien in middle division No. 22, and formerly in possession of Sarah Merritt. Dec. 16, 1179, he sold to William Bean a house near the new meeting-house, formerly the property of George Wilson, bounded on William Hayden, Bartlett, and the road.

Feb. 18, 1785, he bought of Nicholas Coombs, executor to the will of Michael Coombs, his father, “a cow’s commonage in the upper division, in the great field.” Also a pew in the new meeting-house, No. 89. Sept. 21, 1787, sold to Seward Brimblecome, a dwelling-house with the land under it, bounded S. W. on the street leading from the town-house to the ferry; S. E. on Striker’s land, and N. W. on said Brimblecome and Haskell. Mr. Haskell married, June 18, 1151, Ruth, dau. of Michael and Remember Coombs, bapt. June 20, 1731, d. Nov. 8,1814, aged 83 years. (See White Family, No. 14) also Appendix.) She was gr.-dau. of the first Thomas White, and gr. gr. gr. gr. dau. of Henry Coombs the first (who d. 1669), and of the sixth generation.

21. MARK5 bapt. March 15, 1752; drowned at sea with all on board, April 9, 1775; in. Sept. 15, 1774, Rebecca Alley.

MARK6 d. in Boston, aged 18 years.

After time decease of Mark, she m. second, Ralph Smith, of Boston, shipwright, and had ch. Ralph, Kilby, Sarah and Rebecca.

22. REMEMBER5 bapt. Sept. 16, 1753 ; d. Aug. 1 829, aged 76 years ; in. Jan. 10, 1771, Philip, son of, Philip and Mary (Charder) Messervey.

23. MICHAEL5 bapt. Aug. 1 0, 1755; d. Oct. 22, 1818, umm. He was a master mariner, and captain of the brig “Good Hope,” 180 tons, of Salem, to China. Soon after the peace of 1783, be owned the farm at the “ Ferry,” lying next to his father’s farm, bordering on Salem harbor. March 23, 1802, he bought of Sarah Lewis (dau. of Azor Orne) a parcel of land, house and barn at the Ferry, it being a part of time estate of said Orne, bounded on the highway, Salem harbor, N. E. on Mark Haskell’s Cove, S. E. on Thomas Procter, deceased, and S. W. on Dixey. Also one cow right in the Ferry pasture.

The following is an abstract of a will on record, made by Mr. Haskell, but which was disallowed and set aside by the court, for want of proper attestation.

“ This my last will.

I give to Philip H. White and John White all my land with the Building on the same, each alike except the strawberry lot.

I give to Ambroos Messervy the Strawberry lot with the paster land adjoining.
I give to Philip H. White, 100 hard dollars.
I give to John White 100 hard dollars.
I give to Ruthey White, Remember and Susannah White $1000 in the M. Insurance office in Marblehead, Each alike. To say $333 each.
I give to William Haskehl and Ambrose H. White $500 each in time Marblehead Bank.
I give to Thomas and Michael Haskell $250 each in the Social Ins. Office, Marblehead.
I give three waches, (a small silver watch to Ambrose H. White.) (a large silver watch to William Haskell.) (a small gold watch to Michael Haskell.
I give to Mary Smith, dau. of Eben’r & Abigail Smith, 10 pieces of go1d, $15.22 each.
I give to Abigaile Wettemore, dau. of Jacob and Eliza­beth Wettemore, 10 pieces of gold $15.22 each.
I give to Mehitable Wettemore, dau. of Jacob and Eliza­beth, $15.22 each.
I give all my clothing to Ambroos II. White and Wil­liam Haskell.
I give to Philip H. White, Wm. Haskell and Ambroos H. White all my books.
I give to Wm. Haskell I pear of Buckels and pear of Nee buckels.
I give to Ambroos H. White 1 pear of Buckels and pear of Nee buckels.
I give to Win. Haskehl 1 desk with book case.
I give to Ambroos H. White 1 desk.

27. MARY5 bapt. Nov. 20, 1763; d. March 3, 1832, unm. She lived on her brother Michael’s farm, and kept his house till he died. She left a will, wherein she made the following bequests:

To bro. Thomas, all my personal estate.
To Rev. John Bartlett, 3 shares in Marblehead insur­ance Office, sd. Bartlett to appropriate the dividends to said bro. Thomas and his wife Mary.
To Michael Haskell, Thomas, son of Thomas Haskell, Jr. William Haskell, Sarah wife of William Haskell, Miriam, wife of Thomas Haskell Jr., to my niece Grace Reynolds, Mary, wife of John Lewis, widow Ruth Chadwick, Ruth and Susan White, children of John White, to niece Sarah Reynolds, Sarah, wife of Philip White and niece Ruth Richardson, dau. of Susan Cloutman, $10 each.”

28. AMBROSE5 bapt. Aug. 19, 1765; d. Sept. 27, 1 785, in the West Indies, on board of one of his father’s vessels. Mariner.

32. WILLIAM5 bapt. Jan. 29, 1773; d. at the farm, Jan. 1, 1798, unmarried, leaving his property to his brother Mi­chael. He was a master mariner, and for several years commanded a vessel owned in Salem.
33. JANE5 bapt. March 5, 1775; d. Oct. 8, 1813; m. Nov.18, 1798, Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel and Charity Brimblecome, bapt. Sept. 5,1773, d. Sept. 19, 1 850; house car­penter.
