Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama Many of the records pertaining to the Cherokee reservations and their claims are presented in this book. Pages 1-12 list the families who received life reservations in accordance with the two treaties; pages 13 and 14 show those individuals receiving reservations in fee simple as listed in he treaty of 1819; page 15 is a list of individuals compensated for reservations taken by the state of Georgia; page 16-23 show those individuals presenting claims for reservations lost to the first and fourth boards of commissioners; on page 24 and 25 the decision pertaining to one Cherokee claim made to the first board is provided as an example of the information contained in them. Claim papers relating to the decisions of these four boards are in the National Archives and copies may be obtained from there. Much valuable genealogical information can probably be obtained in the claims made by the heirs of many of the Cherokee reservees. These records are found in the records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Record Group 75) of the National Archives and Records Center, Washington, DC 20408. The Cherokee census of 1835 listing those who remained in the east indicated individuals who were reservees and those who were descendants of them.
