Quimby, Gladys Ruby – Obituary

Baker City, Oregon Gladys Ruby Quimby, 90, and a former Baker City resident died Oct. 18, 2003. A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, 3 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Reno, Nev. Allen Wiebe, Gladys’s son-in-law was the speaker. Mrs. Quimby was born in Upton, Wyo., to John and Mary (Canfield) Busby on Jan. 9, 1913. She was the sixth of 11 children. She was married to Duane Hults in 1930 and was remarried to Lawrence quimby in 1944. She had a total of eight children, seven boys and one girl. As a young woman, she would work on dude ranches cooking, cleaning, etc. As a wife and mother, she enjoyed raising and harvesting large gardens. she was known for her great cooking and generosity. Her religious background was limited. She visited many churches and found them unable to answer her questions. She first heard the truth of God’s Word when her younger sister, Nellie Schell, became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Gladys wouldn’t accept it as the truth for many years, but then studied the Bible, in Kellogg, Idaho, for five years, questioning everything being taught. Once thoroughly convinced, though, she was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1951. She was faithful and loyal to the end of her life, each morning reading a portion of the Bible and a daily scripture, which kept her hope, of living forever on earth in paradise alive.
