Tilcock, Helen Marie Holt Mrs. – Obituary

Helen Marie Holt Tilcock, 88, peaceably passed away July 17, 2005, with her daughter at her bedside. A graveside inurnment service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Mount Hope Cemetery. There will be a reception at Geiser Pollman Park. She was born on Dec. 10, 1916, at Harrison, Ark., to Kirby & Beulah Garrison Holt. When she was about 2, her parents and grandparents moved by wagon to Pampa, Texas. Her father and grandfather farmed for awhile and then Kirby went into construction. She was later joined by two brothers, Howard and Kenneth. She went to school in the Pampa and Borger areas. One of her favorite memories is of riding and hiking in the Palo Dura Canyon area on the famous “Trail of Tears.” She met her future husband, G.E. “Tillie” Tilcock, while in high school. They were married on July 4, 1936. Her cousin Margarite helped them elope. During their 55 years of marriage they moved quite frequently, following the oil fields. They had three children: Shirley Joyce, Donald Pat and Sherry Helen. All three children were born in different states. Helen and Tillie bought property in Sumpter in 1957. They tried to vacation there yearly. They moved there permanently in 1965. Many wonderful hours were spent there snowmobiling, rock hunting, wood gathering, fishing and enjoying great barbeques. Helen loved crocheting, afghans, rugs, beaded jewelry, rock hunting, yard sales, visiting with friends and especially her family. Wilson, Shirley J. Tilcock Mrs. – Obituary

Shirley J. Wilson, 65, of Helena, Mont., died April 4, 2003, at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, April 12, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church at East Helena, Mont. Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery. Shirley was born at Pampa, Texas, on May 17, 1937, to George and Helen Tilcock. She was later joined by a brother, Don, and a sister, Sherry. Her father drove truck in heavy hauling, so the family moved quite often. She attended several different schools in several states, graduating at Fillmore, Calif. She met her husband, Lyle F. Wilson, while visiting her aunt in Ontario. They were married at Fillmore on Oct. 12, 1955. They moved to Payette, Idaho, where Lyle was employed as a meat cutter. Shirley and Lyle were blessed with three children, Debra, Pamela and Nolon. Shirley and Lyle moved to East Helena in 1987, where she opened Nana’s Daycare in 1989. Shirley opened her heart and home to anyone who needed love and support. She loved her family, crocheting, her garden, flowers and her church. Shirley touched many lives and will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her husband, Lyle; daughters Debra Lang and her husband, Daniel, of Helena, Mont.; and Pamela Johnson and her husband, Mark, of Missoula, Mont.; her son, Nolon Wilson, and his wife, Julie, of Helena, Mont.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of Montana; her mother, Helen Tilcock, sister, Sherry Younger and her husband, Allen, all of Baker City; and several nieces and nephews. Biography of William H. Holt

William H. Holt came to Kansas a number of years ago as a railway employee, but soon took up banking and had had a wide experience in that field, partly in Kansas and partly in Northwestern Texas, and is now cashier of the Central National Bank of Ellsworth. This is one of the largest and most substantial banks in Southern Kansas. Mr. Holt was born at Grafton, West Virginia, August 2, 1879. His ancestors came originally out of England and were colonial settlers in Virginia. His father, James W. Holt, was born at Kingwood in Preston County, West Virginia, in 1850, and had spent his entire life in West Virginia, being now a resident of Grafton and a retired publisher. In politics he is a republican and for several years served as postmaster of Grafton, as mayor two terms, and as a member of the Lutheran Church and the Masonic fraternity. He married Anna Jordan, who was born at Baltimore, Maryland, in 1852 and died at Grafton in 1897. They reared a family of very capable children, their names and situations in life being noted as follows: John A., a banker at Gage, Oklahoma; Alfred, a druggist at Grafton, West Virginia; William H.; Howard H., who succeeds his father as publisher of the Grafton Daily Sentinel and still had active charge of the journal; Mrs. Lillian Rightmire, living at Montgomery, West Virginia, her husband being master mechanic in the Chesapeake & Ohio shops; and Catherine, who married Frank Shrewsbury of Montgomery, West Virginia, an engineer with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway.
