Biographical Sketch of P. C. Griffin

P. C. GRIFFIN. Among the genial, hospitable and worthy citizens of the precinct, Phillip C. Griffin, our subject, deserves mention; his birth dates November 27, 1845. His parents, James J. and P. C. Griffin, and he as well, were natives of this county. The father was a farmer, later a merchant, who died February 15, 1880, at the age of sixty-six years. The mother makes her home with her youngest child, Mrs. Lacey, aged sixty-four years. The father was, and the mother still is, a devoted member of the Christian Church. At the age of eighteen Phillip C. began on the farm for himself. Four years later he taught, and continued teaching with good success for four years. He took kindly to the profession, but declining health gave notice of the necessity of a more active life; he sold goods then in company with his father, the firm name being J. J. Griffin & Son. This, partnership continued six years, when he engaged in his present business, dealing in produce, in which he has been reasonably successful. October, 1870, he married Miss Lucy, daughter of George and Nancy Foughender, residents of Muhlenburg County. Six children have blessed this union, viz.: Robert B., Mina L., Effie ‘M., Katie, Ella and Maud. The parents are members, the former of the Christian and the latter of the Baptist Church.
