J.M. Burnside Passes, Was In Haines 45 Years
Widow, Two Daughters Among Those Who Mourn Passing. Rites Held.
Ill health, which 10 days ago necessitated his removal to a Baker hospital, at 7 o’clock Monday evening claimed the life of John Mathew Burnside well-known in the Haines Community for the past 45 years and an old-time farmer there.
Funeral rites will be held from the local Methodist church at 2 o’clock this afternoon, Thursday. The body will be laid to rest in the Haines cemetery.
Mr. Burnside was born in Howard City, Kansas in 1871, and crossed the plains in 1880 with his grandparents.
He lived in Washington for a few years but soon moved to the Haines section where he operated a farm for many years and spent the remaining 45 years of his life. He was married February 25, 1892 to Minnie L. Blize, who died June 10, 1925. Mr. Burnside was married to Elizabeth Bettner in LaGrande February, 1927.
The deceased is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Ethel McCullough of North Powder, Mrs. Edna Aldrich of Haines; a step-daughter, Mrs. May Phillips of Haines; a stepson, J.W. Blize of Haines; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
