Services Held For Nancy L. Berry

Nancy Luella Berry was born in Jefferson County, Kansas, July 3, 1869 and passed away at La Grande, Oregon June 4, 1960 after a short illness at the age of 90 years, eleven months and one day.

She was the eldest daughter of James and Mary Sales.

She was united in marriage to John Wesley Berry on July 1, 1886 at Florence, Nebraska.

To this union were born eleven children, seven boys and four girls. Her husband and four children preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Bonney and Mrs. Opal Sanders, Union, Mrs. Cora and Mrs. Eva Robertson of White Salmon, Wash.; three sons, John W. Berry and Charles G. Berry, Wallowa, and son, Berry of Milton-Freewater; twenty-three grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Nickles and Mrs. Elizabeth Butler, Loveland, Colorado, and Mrs. Mollie Metzger, Ozakie, Kansas; and one brother , Thomas Sales, of Ozakie, Kansas.

Mrs. Berry was a resident of Wallowa county for many years, moving to Union county about 17 years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Union with an elder of the Seventh Day Adventist church officiating. Graveside services were held at the Wallowa cemetery with the Auxiliaries of Kruse Unit No. 72 presenting their funeral service. Mrs. Berry was a member of the Legion auxiliary.

Pallbearers were all grandsons: Marion Thomas, Tad Thomas, Bill McCrae, Glen McCrae, and Earl Sanders Jr., all of Union, and Darrel Jones of Seattle.
