Roy Basford Dies At Hospital

Roy L. Basford who had been in failing health for the past ten years, passed away Thursday, December 4, 1958 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since falling and fracturing his hip a few days before.

Funeral services were Monday at 11 a.m. at the Bollman chapel, with Elder Fred Wagner officiating. Dr. Douglas Miller, Leonard Dickerson, and Robert Shepley sang “Abide With Me;” Mrs. Virgil Preuhs, Mrs. Calvin Springer and Mrs. Douglas Miller sang “There’ll Be No Dark Valley,” and Mrs. Virgil Preuhs sang “Crossing The Bar.” Mrs. Douglas miller was organist.

Casket bearers were: Lawrence Rowe, Lester Ruud, Virgil Pruehs, Wayne Cox, Robert Shepley, and Leonard Dickerson, and internment was in the Enterprise cemetery.

Mr. Basford was born August 12, 1886 in Mitchell county, Iowa, son of Lindsay and Clara Basford. On March 29, 1916 he was married to at Mason City, Iowa to May Rowe who survives him. The couple had lived in Oregon for 32 years, coming to Wallowa County 24 years ago. He was a retired carpenter. He belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, May, Enterprise; a son, Stanley, Hermiston: two daughters: Mrs. Walter (Clara May) Robbins, Burke, Ida.: and Mrs. Edward (Jeanne) Beerman, Enterprise; six grandsons and five granddaughters.
