Nading, Sonora Nora Veranda Warner – Obituary

Sonora Veranda, daughter of Martin and Mary Anne Warner, was born May 16, 1853. Died Sunday Evening at 7:30 June 10, 1923, age 70 years and 25 days.

She was married to John Nading December 21, 1871. He passed away September 27, 1888. To this union were born six children, Harry, Walter, Ralph, Gertrude, Martin, and Grant. Ralph died in 1886 at the age of 6 years. Gertrude, the only daughter, died at Topeka, Kansas in 1891 at the age of 10. Grant died in 1886 at 1 year of age.

She leaves the three sons, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Porter, many friends and co-workers in her Christian life who will cherish her memory. All her life has been lived in this County (Shelby) except a few years in Topeka, Kansas and one and one half years in ’98 and ’99 when doing missionary work in India.

She united with the church in early girlhood and at the time of her death was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Lewis Creek, Indiana. During her life she was an active church worker and Missionary. She was ever anxious that the Gospel Story reach those in the far away lands an in the poor and lonely ways of life.

While in India she used her own funds to construct a Missionary Home near Calcutta. On her return she established and gave a home in Topeka, Kansas to be used in missionary work. She gave much money to Missionary Institutions of different denominations and she kept in touch with the Workers in Foreign Fields.

She had an extensive correspondence and the beautiful letters of encouragement and cheer with her prayers and support will be greatly missed. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, with a heart full of love ever ready to serve administer to their needs. Ever ready to share their joys and sorrows and very anxious of their future welfare.

She, like all of us, was only human, not always perfect in judgment, but with a noble purpose, pure motives and a determination to be helpful and instrumental in spreading the Story of the Love of the Christ she worshiped. Her sons, her words, her prayers will be remembered. She will be remembered in many homes where she served so well in times of sickness and for her words of consolation and encouragement to those whose loved once were taken.

Many sorrows and disappointments came to her along life’s way. She met them prayerfully and with childlike faith in her God, trusting all would some day be well. She has lived long and well. She was worn and frail. She felt the approach of Death. She lay her head on the bosom of Christ and quietly fell asleep.
