W.T. Mahon Dies at Joseph Home

Another Wallowa county pioneer has passed to the great beyond in the person of William T. Mahon, who died at his home near Joseph Friday, November 13, 1936.

William T. Mahon was born March 8, 1853, in Illinois and died aged 83 years, 8 months and 5 days. When a child he moved with his folks to La Cygne, Kansas, where in May of 1874 he was united in marriage to Sophia R. Conley.

To this union, which lasted for 62 years, four children were born, all of whom survive him. They are Rollo L. Mahon of Lewiston, Idaho; Mrs. Laura Boner of Joseph, Paul M. Mahon of Centralia, Washington, and George D. Mahon of Joseph. Besides his aged wife and four children he leaves 5 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, three brothers and sisters in Kansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahon came to Oregon in 1888 with their family and located on Alder Slope where they lived for more than 20 years. They then moved to Joseph where they have resided ever since. Mr. Mahon was a kind and loving husband and father, a loyal friend and a good citizen of the community in which he lived and had the friendship of all how knew him.

Funeral services were conducted in the Joseph M.E. church with Rev. G.R. Archer officiating and interment was in Prairie Creek Cemetery.

There were many beautiful flowers, tokens of family and friends.
