Shively, Mary A. O’Donnell Mrs. – Obituary

Mary A. O’Donnell Shively, 87, of Boise, a former Baker City resident, died May 16, 2006, at a Boise care center.

Visitations will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. A vigil service and recitation of the rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Deacon James R. Watt will lead the rosary. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Camillus Fernando of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mary was born on April 24, 1919, at New Plymouth, Idaho, to Charles and Margaret O’Donnell. She was raised in Baker City and was a 1937 St. Francis Academy graduate.

She married Voris Shively on May 16, 1942 at Baker City where their five children were born and raised. They moved to Wallowa for three years, returning to Baker City in 1964.

Voris died in 1979 and Mary remained in Baker City until 1997 when she moved to Boise.

Mary was a member of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. She was a member of the Altar Society and the St. Francis Mother’s Club. During her time in Boise, she was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, volunteering at St. Francis Academy, and spending good-quality time with her children, great-grandchildren and her friends at the Baker TOPS Club.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Anne Poinier of St. Luke’s Internal Medicine in Boise for her long care of Mary and to the nurses and CNAs at Treasure Valley Life Care who took care of mom.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Arte, and her husband, Richard, of Meridian, Idaho, and Sandi Labonte and her husband, Dan of Baker City; her sons, Marvin Shively, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Olympia, Wash., and Michael Shively and his wife, Joyce, of Troy, Ill.; two sisters, Rose Paris of Boise and Katherine Pearson of Redding, Calif.; sister-in-law, Arlene Shively of Richland, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Joanne Shively; her parents; and three brothers and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Cathedral Renovation Fund through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
