Mrs. Viola Lyman Laid To Rest

Viola Elizabeth Lyman, daughter of Peter L. and Nancy Ann (Bannon) Lingenfelter, was born August 12, 1889, in Bradshaw County, Nebraska where she spent her early life. In 1906, with her family, she came west to Idaho Falls, where on December 22, 1915; she was married to Henry W. Lyman. In 1923, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman and family moved to Wallowa County which has since been her home.

Mrs. Lyman passed away August 11, 1950 at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise after an illness of about three months. Mrs. Lyman was the mother of eight children, two dying in infancy, Surviving children are: Mrs. Hazel Herrett, of Sequim, Washingtom; Mrs. Effie Lozier, Enterprise; Chauncey Lyman, La Grande; Mrs. Ruby Prince, Enterprise; Mrs. Leona Warnock, Imnaha; and Miss Anita Lyman, of Enterprise. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and a brother and sister, George Lingenfelter and Cora Lingenfelter, of Twin Falls, Idaho, and many friends. Mrs. Lyman was one of the Charter members of the W.B.A. in Enterprise.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in the Enterprise Community Church, of which she was a member. It was lovely, with the floral offerings of her friends. The Rev. H.C. Stover, Pastor of the church officiated, and with Mrs. Lewis Wilcox and Mrs. A.P. Craig sang, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” and “The City Foursquare,” with Mrs. W.F. Craig at the organ.

Pall bearers were Garnet Best, Burton Miller, Clarence Rose, Lawrence Rowe, W.S. Strickler and Harold Wade, and burial was in the Enterprise cemetery by the side of her husband, who passed away in 1948.
