Barney E. Kilborn, 85, of Baker City died Feb. 7, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

At his request, there will be no service.

Barney was born to Lloyd and Ethel Knowles Kilborn at Weiser, Idaho, on June 10, 1918. He was raised in the Weiser area. Growing up in the Snake River Basin, he developed a long-term love of hunting and outdoor activities.

During World War II, Barney worked on the railroad, which eventually brought him to Eastern Oregon where he lived in the La Grande area. In 1946, Barney married and moved to Redmond where he raised his family. In 1992, he returned to Eastern Oregon, settling in the Baker City area.

Barney worked as a heavy construction mechanic/welder. He worked as the project manager for two large dams in Oregon: Lake Billy Chinook and Blue River Reservoir.

In addition to hunting, Barney enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. He had been a member of the Operating Engineer Association, Local 701 Union, since 1963.

Survivors include his two children, Chris, and her husband, Tom Van Camp of Brookings and Gary Kilborn of St. Helens; seven grandchildren, Jake and Lacey Kilborn of La Grande, Kaleb, Damien and Colby Van Camp of Brookings and Melissa and Gregory Kilborn of St. Helens.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Terry Kilborn.
