Bruhn, George Clifford, Sr. – Obituary

George Clifford Bruhn Sr., 74, of Baker City, died Oct. 5, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

His graveside service was Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Truscott Irby of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, No. 3048, officiated. The Oregon Army National Guard presented military rites in his honor.

George was born on July 1, 1931, at Sandpoint, Idaho, to Ted and Eva Bruhn. He was raised and educated at Sandpoint and Naples, Idaho.

George joined the U.S. Marines in 1950 and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He attained the rank of sergeant E5. George served his country for 16 years and was honorably discharged in 1966.

On April 2, 1957, he married Clintina V. Cross at Naples, Idaho. He worked in a variety of jobs in his lifetime and then found the love of the woods and worked as a logger for many years.

George enjoyed many things in his life before and after retiring in 1993. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and spending time with family and grandchildren. He was a proud papa.

George loved his family dearly and wanted the best for them. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends, most especially for his great smile and joking personality. He will be truly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Tina; daughter, Marla, and her husband, Casey Anderson, of Halfway; son, George Bruhn Jr., and his wife, Peggy, of Baker City; daughter, Jennifer Steele of Baker City; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; a sister, Pearl Hoffine of Easton, Wash.; brother, Gary Bruhn of Spokane, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Clifford, who died in 2001; and brothers, Richard and Butch.

Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. or charity of one’s choice, through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
