Joan Bloom, 72, of Weiser, Idaho, and formerly of Halfway, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at a Weiser care center.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Thomason Funeral Chapel, Weiser.
Joan was born Feb. 3, 1931, at Hill City, Kansas the daughter of Ray and Dorothy Stearns Smith. She received her education in Halfway where she met her future husband. Joan married Bud Bloom May 24, 1947, at Baker. The couple resided in several places in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, finally settling in the Ontario area where both children were raised.
She was a bus driver for the Ontario School District and Driver’s Ed instructor for TVCC.
Joan collected bells as a hobby. She also enjoyed dancing, camping with her family and bowling.
Survivors include a son, Gary Bloom of Weiser, Idaho; daughter, Debbie Bloom of Ontario; two brothers, Fred and his wife Mary Smith of Halfway; Bud and his wife Barbara Smith of Eugene; a sister, Delores York of Hood River; grandson, Chase Bloom of Weiser, Idaho; two granddaughters, Dawn Bailey of Redmond, Dana Stone of Baker City, four great-grandchildren, Blake and Beau Stone and Andrew and Claire Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bud Bloom and twin sister, Jean Mehlhorn.
The family suggests memorials be made in her name to Excel Hospice of Payette, Idaho, or the Meals on Wheels, Senior Center, Weiser, Idaho.
