Biography of Luke Stevens

Luke Stevens married Ellen Dupree and settled two miles south of Mock Springs, in Pulaski County. Seven children were born to them. In 1850 they moved to Angelena County, Texas. Nothing is known of the family except Stephen Daniel, a son, who came back to settle the estate. He married Katherine Dewitte and settled two miles north of Mock Springs and farmed. He served four years in the Confederate Army. After the war he came back and took part in the rebuilding of the county. Both were members of Antioch Baptist Church and were loved by many. He lived to be seventy-seven years old, and she was eighty-four. They were buried at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Nine children were born to them.
Tom married Sallie Brinkley in 1882, and one child, Fate, was born to them. In 1886 he married Rebecca Ridley. They had one child, Nettie. Both of these wives are buried at Wesley Cemetery. He married Eliza Floyd in 1890. They live ten miles south of Hawkinsville and are farming. He is a deacon of Antioch Baptist Church. He is loved and admired for his loyalty to his church, and is an honest man.
Jim married Arinda Williams and moved to Dooly County to farm. Two children were born to them. Arinda Williams Stephens died in 1933 and was buried at Williams Cemetery. Jim later married Susie Moore. He is admired for his honesty and is loved for his neighborliness.
George married Georgia Simmons and moved to Wilcox County. They had five children.
Betty married Joe Williams and lived on the Blackshear road ten miles south of Hawkinsville. Five children were born to them. To know Betty Williams is to love her.
Lula married Bill Dorminey and moved to Pavo, Ga. Three children were born to them.
Mary married Neal Singleton. They had four children. Both are buried at Wesley Cemetery.
Jane married Ellis Horne and moved to Wilkinson County. They had three children.
J. T. Stevens, a grandson of Tom Stevens, and his baby son, are the only members of this family to perpetuate the Stevens name. They live in Pulaski County.
