Biography of L. F. Finleyson

L. F. Finleyson was born in Bibb County in 1861. He moved to Wilcox County, near Finleyson, in 1899. He married Miss Mollie Hendley of Pulaski County in 1885. She was a woman of great strength of character, one who in deed and in truth labored side by side with her husband in every worthy undertaking. They had nine children, all of whom were boys: J. L. Finleyson, born 1887, farmer, married Sadie Horne in 1906; two children, Mildred and Loyd. B. L. Finleyson, born 1888, married Jewel Nelson in 1915, died 1918;. one son, Clayton Nelson, born in 1916. L. H. Finleyson, born 1891, married Ethel Conner, 1917; farmer and government position; no children. C. T. Finleyson, born 1893, married Jean Slade; died 1920; no children. E. C. Finleyson, born 1896, died 1926. Clarence Finleyson, born 1897, married Bernice Conner in 1900; cashier of the Bank of Finleyson; one child, Clarence, Jr. J. B. Finleyson, born 1905; bookkeeper. L. F. Finleyson, born 1905, married Inez King; government position. Early Finleyson, born 1906; government position.

Mr. Finleyson was one of Pulaski’s foremost citizens, public spirited, always ready to help in any enterprise which had as its object the betterment of the county and its people. He was for several terms a member of the county board’ of commissioners, and in 1897, when the courthouse was enlarged and improved to meet the needs of the day, he was a member of that body.
By vocation, Mr. Finleyson was a farmer, and the fruits of his labor show that he was successful. In addition to his large farming interests he was the promoter and ably assisted in the organization of the Bank of Finleyson, an institution that is prosperous and gaining in popularity with an increasing interest in business of its clientele.
He was able to be of financial aid to each of his sons as they grew to manhood and launched out into their business careers. They are men of business ability and are an asset in their business life to Pulaski County.

Mr. Finleyson died January 30, 1919, after a long, useful and successful life, and others could well take his life as an example to emulate.
