Bard, Wayne N. – Obituary

Wayne N. Bard, 78, died Jan. 22, 2007, in Pueblo, Colo.

Wayne’s ashes will be buried beside his wife at Mount Hope Cemetery May 2 at 2 p.m. Father Julian Cassar of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral will officiate.

All friends and relatives are invited to the graveside service and to the following reception at the United Methodist Church.

Wayne was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Winfield, Kan., to Claude and Hilda Bard. He spent most of his growing up years in the Winfield area and served his country in the Navy.

When he came home from the Navy he worked with his dad and brother in the oil fields. He met Roberta Bales in Great Bend, Kan., and they were married on July 9, 1950.

The couple returned to Baker where they dealt in antiques and cared for a number of foster children. They loved the mountains — camping, fishing, digging for old bottles, and picking mushrooms and huckleberries.

After moving away they would plan their vacations to come back to Baker when the mushrooms were ready to pick.

Wayne was preceded in death by Roberta, his loving wife of 50 years, and by his parents.

Surviving relatives are: brother, Claude Bard and his wife, Toni; son, Melvin Patrick and his wife Sylvia of Albany; grandchildren, Marty of Australia and Ray of California; two brothers-in-law, Darrell Bales and his wife Bertha of Baker City, and Dennis Bales of Umatilla; sisters-in-law, Sally Farmer and Patty Moyes of Baker City, and several nieces and nephews.
