Kentucky Census Records

Starting in 1790, the United States government took a census every 10 years. Kentucky residents are included in the Federal population schedules since 1810. Earlier US census records for Kentucky were destroyed, but published tax lists serve as a replacement for the lost 1790 and 1800 censuses. Where found those are listed within the county listings.

Special census records exist for Kentucky as follows:

  1. Industry and Agricultural Schedules: 1850-1880
  2. Mortality Schedules: 1850-1880
  3. Slave Schedules: 1850-1860
  4. Union Veteran Schedules: 1890
Only a partial schedule remains for the state consisting of 65 counties.
