O’Connell, Mary Bond Mrs. – Obituary

Mary Bond O’Connell, 46, a former Baker County resident, died April 5, 1991, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

A memorial service was scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Baker City First Christian Church, 2998 Eighth St. Private interment was at the Haines Cemetery. A memorial service also was conducted Monday in Spokane.

Mrs. O’Connell had undergone a bone marrow transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle slightly more than a year ago. She died from complications of the dancer she battled for more than two years.

Mrs. O’Connell was born December 11, 1944, in La Grande to Lois and Champ Bond of Haines. She was a 1963 Baker High School graduate and a 1968 graduate of Oregon State University at Corvallis.

She taught high school in Los Angeles for one year and then became a flight attendant and supervisor for United Air Lines. She was based in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and Denver and recently celebrated her 29th anniversary with United.

She was a member of the Valley Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane and a member of the Chester PTA. She also was very active with Girl Scouts. She enjoyed hunting, skiing, gardening, and loved her family.

She married Mike O’Connell in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1980. They had two daughters, Marinda and Lacey, all surviving at their home in Spokane.

Survivors also include her mother and father, Champ and Lois Bond of Haines; a brother, John Bond of Denver; sister, Anne Rice of Palm Springs, CA., and Kathy Wise of Reno, Nevada; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Marcelle O’Connell of Baker City. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Elizabeth.
