Newman, Margaret E. Shira Mrs. – Obituary

Margaret E. Newman-Homemaker, 86, passed away after a short illness in Paradise, Calif. on Friday, June 13, 2003.

Services were June 19, 2003, 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 520 Clark St., Yuba City, Calif. Internment at Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, Calif.

Margaret E. Newman was the eldest of seven children born to Olen and Belle Shira in Lineville, Mo. Nov. 4, 1916. The family moved west to Fruitland, Idaho, when she was 5-years-old. In 1928 the family homesteaded in Harper.

Margaret met Boyd Newman and after a short courtship they were married April 24, 1939, at Weiser, Idaho They had three daughters, Sandra, Colleen and Connie. Margaret and Boyd were employed on ranches in Idaho and Oregon moving to Meadow Vista, Calif., in the early 1960s where Boyd became a construction worker. Margaret and Boyd lived in Anchorage, Alaska, while Boyd worked on the Alaskan pipeline. Retirement brought them to Paradise, Calif., moving to Yuba City, Calif. in 1988.

Margaret sold her home in Yuba City and moved back to Paradise November 2002. For a short while she resided at Feather Canyon Retirement, at Paradise.

Margaret loved growing flowers with roses being her favorite. Crocheting was one of the hobbies she enjoyed, always with a ball of thread in her lap. Many family members and friends have beautiful doilies that were gifts. She loved to visit and tell family stories.

She is survived by daughters Sandra Morin, Paradise, Calif., and Colleen Newman, Baker City; brother, Sargent Shira, Marysville, Calif., sisters, Wanda Jones, Ontario, Phyllis Mulvany and Teressa Falck of Harper; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Belle; two brothers, Clayton and Thomas; her husband Boyd and daughter Connie.
