Sir WILLIAM HICKS, Bart., succeeded his father, sir Howe Hicks, Aug. 1801; married, 1st, 1784, Judith, 3d da. of Edward Whitcombe, of Orleton, co. Worcester, esq., by whom he had, Howe, b. 1786, and d. 1787 ; and 2dly, Aug. 1793, Anne-Rachael, da. of the late Thomas-Lobb Chute of the Vine, co. Hants esq., and has issue 1 da., Anne-Rachael, b. 11 Sept. 1794, m. 16 March 1816, W. L. Cromie, esq., only son of sir Michael Cromie, bart., grandson of Ford, 5th earl of Cavan. ROBERT HICKS, son and h. of John Hicks, of Tortworth, co. Gloucester, was a citizen of London, and raised a very great estate. He m. Julian, da. of William Arthur of Clapham, esq., and had issue 2 sons, Baptist, who was created baron Hicks and viscount Campden 1628, with limitation to his son-in-law, Edward, baron Noel, ancestor of the earls of Gainsborough, extinct ; and Sir MICHAEL, of Beverston, co. Gloucester, who m. Elizabeth Colston, of London and was father of I. Sir WILLIAM, 1st bart., m. Margaret, da. of William, lord Paget, and had issue 8 children, of whom only 3 survived, viz. 1. Sir William, 2nd bart. 2. Sir Michael, knighted by king Charles I., m. Susan, youngest da. of sir Richard Howe, knt., and widow of Samuel-Beaumont Everard, esq, by whom he had 10 children, buts 2 only survived him---1. Howe Hicks, esq., father of the 6th bart---2. Alice, m. William Somerford, esq. 3. Letitia, m. Arthur Chichester, earl of Donegal, in Ireland. Sir William d. 22 Oct. 1680, and was succeeded by his eldest son, II. Sir WILLIAM, m. Marthagnes, da. of sir Henry Coningsby, knt., and had issue, 1. .Sir HENRY, 3rd bart. 2. Charles, m. the da. of ------Coningsby, and d. in 1670, leaving issue 1. John-Baptist, who, upon the failure of the elder branch, became 5th bart. ---2. Mary, m. James Darcy---3. Margaret, m. Anthony Wharton. Sir William d. 1703, and was succeeded by his eldest son, III. Sir HENRY, m. 1st, Margaret, da. of sir John Holmes, knt., by whom he had 1 son, 1. Henry, who d. unm. He m. 2dly, Barbara, da. of Joseph Johnson, esq., and left by her 2 sons, 2. Sir ROBERT, 4th bart. 3. Michael, d. unm. in 1764. Sir Henry d. 1754, and was succeeded by his son, IV. Sir ROBERT, who d. without issue in 1768, when the title devolved on his cousin, V. Sir JOHN-BAPTIST, before mentioned, who d. 23 Nov. 1792, without issue, and was succeeded by his 2d cousin, VI. Sir HOWE (only son of Howe Hicks, of Whitcombe, esq., only surviving son of Sir Michael Hicks, knt., 2d surviving son of sir William Hicks, 1st bart.) m. Martha, da. of the rev. John Browne, by whom lie had, 1. Sir WILLIAM, present bart. 2. Michael, who assumed the name of Beach, m. 1779, Henrietta-Maria, only da. of William Beach, of Nether Avon, esq., and had issue---1. Michael-Beach Hicks, M.P. for Cirencester, b. Nov. 1780, m. Feb. 1809, Caroline, da. of William Mount, of Wasing, co. Berks, esq.--- 2. William Hicks, b. July 1783---3. a da. 3. Martha, m. rev. mr. Petatt, rector of Stonhouse, co. Gloucester (who d. 17 April 1801), and d. his widdow 20 Sept. 1826. Sir Howe d. Aug. 1801, and was succeeded by his eldest son, VII. Sir WILLIAM, present bart.
