Sir FITZWILLIAM BARRINGTON, Bart., born 2 March 1755, succeeded his brother, sir John, 5 Aug. 1818, married, July 1790, Edeth-Mary, da. of sir Samuel Marshal, knt., R.N., 1. Louisa-Ed eth m. April 1813, sir Richard Simeon, bart.; 2. Fitzwilliam, d. young ; 3. Jane-Elizabeth; 4. Julia, m. June 1817, Henry-Philip Powys, of Broomfield House, co. Middlesex, esq., eldest son of Philip-Lybbe Powys, of Hardwick, co. Berks, esq.,, and d. Sept. 1821 ; 5. Annie-Emma, d. April 1818 ; 6. Ellen-Flacke, m. 16 May 1824, John-George Campbell, esq., 2d son of the late col. John Campbell, of Islay; 7. Mary, m. 5 Aug. 1827, capt. Thomas-Pakenham Vandeleur, 5th dragoon guards, 3d son of the late col. John Ormsby Vandeleur.
     This family is descended from Oydnell Barrington, or Barentone, a Saxon, who had the custody of the forest of Hatfield, temp. William the Conqueror. 14th in descent from him, was Sir THOMAS BARRINGTON, of Barrington, knt., m. Winifred 2d da. and co-h. of Henry Pole, lord Montacute (son of sir Richard Pole, knt., by Margaret, countess of Salisbury, only da. and at length h. of George Plantagenet, duke of Clarence, brother of kill Edward IV.), and b her was father of I. Sir FRANCIS, the 1st bart., knt. of the shire for Essex, in the 48th of Elizabeth, and knighted on the accession of king James I. to the English crown; m. Joan, da. of sir Henry Cromwell, alias Williams, knt., and sister of sir Oliver Cromwell, knt., and had issue,
   1. Sir THOMAS, 2d bart.
   2. Robert, m. Dorothy, da. of sir Thomas Eden, and widow of -Barrett, esq., brother to sir Edward; by whom he left issue.
   3. Francis, who, by a da. of Mr. Richard Doucet, had a son, Francis.
   4. John, a captain, who d. in Germany.
   5. Elisabeth, m. 1st, sir James Altham, knt; and 2dly, sir William Masham, bart.
   6. Mary m. Sir Gilbert Gerard, bart
   7. Winifred, m. Sir William Meux, knt.
   8. Ruth, m. sir George Lamplugh knt.
   9. Joan, m. Sir Richard Everard, bart.
   Sir Francis d. 1623, and was succeeded by his eldest son,
II. Sir THOMAS, was knighted during his father's life; m., 1st, Frances, da. and co-h. of John Gobert, esq., by whom he had,
   1. Lucy, m., 1st, to William Cheyney, esq.; and, 2dly, to sir Toby Tyrrell, bart.
   2. Sir JOHN, 3d bart.
   3. Sir Gobert, knt., who m., 1st, Lucy, da. of sir William Wiseman, knt., and, 2dly, Elizabeth, relict of Hugh Lawton, and d. about 1695, having had, by his lst wife,6 sons, who all d. without issue; and of whom, Francis the 2d, left his estate to John Shute, esq., cousin-german to his wife; which John Shute took the surname of Barrington, by act of parliament, and was created viscount Barrington in the peerage of Ireland.
     Sir Thomas, m., 2dly, Judith, da. of sir Rowland Lytton, knt., and widow of sir George Smith, knt:, by whom (who d. 1657) he had no issue. Sir Thomas d. 1644, and was succeeded by his eldest son,
   III. Sir JOHN, m. Dorothy, da. of sir William Lytton, of Knebworth, knt., by whom, who survived him, and d. 27 Oct. 1703, he had, besides other issue, 2 sons,
   1. Thomas, who m. Anne, da. and co-h. of Robert Rich, earl of Warwick, and d. in his father's lifetime, 1681, leaving issue by her (who re-m. sir Richard Francklyn, bart.) 2 sons, sir JOHN and sir CHARLES, 4th and 5th baronets; and 3 das., dune, m. Charles Shales, goldsmith to king Geo. II, and Rich and Mary, who d. unm.
   8. John, of Dunmow, co. Essex, m. Elizabeth, da. of Edward Hawkins, anti had issue, sir JOHN, 6th baronet; and Anne, m..--Flacke.
   Sir John d. 1683, and was succeeded by his grandson,
   IV. Sir JOHN, who d. unm. of the small-pox in 1691; and was succeeded by his brother,
   V. Sir CHARLES, who was several times elected knt. of the shire for Essex, and was made, by queen Anne, vice-admiral of that co.; m. 1st, Bridget, sole da. of sir John Monson, bart. (by Judith, da. of sir Thomas Pelham, bart., great-grandfather to Thomas, duke of Newcastle), and after her decease he m. 2dly, Anna-Maria, da. of William, earl Fitzwilliam, but neither of them had any issue. The greatest part of his estate he left by will to his sister, Shales, and after her decease to his nephew, Riche-Shales Barrington, esq., her eldest son, who dying unm., it came to his youngest brothers John-Shales Barrington, esq., of Hatfield Broad Oak, in Essex. He d. 29 Jan. 1'715, when the title devolved on his first cousin,
   VI. JOHN (son and heir of John Barrington, esq., 3d son of sir John Barrington, bart., grandfather to sir Charles); m. Susan, da. of George Draper, gent., and left issue,

   Sir John d. Aug. 1'71'7, was succeeded by his eldest son,
   VII. Sir JOHN M. P. for Newton, in the Isle of Night, m. Diary, da. of Patricius Roberts, esq., by whom (who d. 11 June 1752) he had no issue. Sir John d. 4 Dray 1776, and was succeeded by his brother,
   VIII. Sir FITZWILLIAM, m. 1st, 1741, Sarah, da. and sale h. of rapt. Thomas Meades, R.N., and by her had 1 son and 2 das., who all d. infants ; and 2dly, 1'750, Jane, da. of Matthew Hall, esq., by whom he had,
   1. Anne, m. the rev. William Browne, of Camfield Place, co. Herts.
   2. Sir JOHN, 9th bart.
   3. Winifred, m. April 1778, Robert-Pope Blachford, of Osborne, in the Isle of Wight, esq.
