Brown, Ray F. – Obituary

Ray F. Brown, former vice principal of counseling and guidance at Burlingame High School passed away on June 9, 2008, in his home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was born in Baker City, Ore., where he lived with his parents Walter and Frona Brown. He went to the University of Oregon and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to the University of Oregon and later went to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore., where he made many lifelong friends. He and Alice E. Irving met at Lewis and Clark and they have been married for a long, long time.

Early in his career Ray taught in Baker City, Ore., at the Junior high school, before moving to Portland, Ore., where he worked in counseling and guidance at Cleveland high school. Then Ray and Alice moved to California where they lived in Hillsborough for thirty five years before retiring in Scottsdale, Ariz.

He is survived by his loving wife Alice E. Brown in Scottsdale, Ariz., his sister Arlene Gwin, his niece Sharon Marts-Day, and her children Laura and Charles Day, in Granite Bay, Calif. On Alice’s side of the family the entire Holden family in Washington State and in California will miss him.

He was a wonderful and gentle man whom everybody liked; he will be missed so much by all. The world is a lesser place without him, and yet a better one, he was a great inspiration to everyone he knew. His life was one of love and service, he had an extraordinarily fine character and an exceptionally kind and warm personality.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, Ariz., on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to a scholarship in the name of Raymond F. and Alice E. Brown endowment fund at Lewis and Clark College, 0615 SW Palatine Hill Road, Portland, OR. 97219-7899.
