About New York, Genealogical Records, 1675-1920

This database is a comprehensive index of more than 600,000 individuals who are found in various New York records between 1675 and 1920. Some of the records used to compile this index include passenger lists, land records, city directories, and census records. These types of records are great sources for genealogists because they document a person in a particular place and time as well as provide details about that individual. Information provided in this index includes the name of the individual, event type, date of event, location or place of event, and source information in which the individual and event are recorded.

Because this database is an index it is important that you use the information found in this data set to locate your ancestor in the original records, which this index references. For each individual listed in this index a source title, page number, and publication information is provided so that you may easily find the record that your ancestor is located in. This data set was produced in collaboration with the Genealogical Research Library under the supervision of Noel Elliot. Many of the source documents are available in their collection.
