  • About Pike County, Missouri, U.S., Death Index, 1878-1917

This database is an index to deaths reported in two Pike County newspapers, the Bowling Green Observer and the Bowling Green Times, from 9 August 1878 to 27 December 1917. The Bowling Green Observer was a four-page weekly paper, printed on Fridays. The Bowling Green Times was also a four-page weekly paper, printed on Thursdays. In 1891 it became an eight-page paper. Deaths reported in these newspapers took place not just in Pike County—many of the deaths reported took place throughout the state as well as the country, as reported deaths included relatives of residents, former residents, and current residents of Pike County. Information contained in this index includes name of deceased, age at time of death or birth date, date of death, and date of newspaper report. Note: There are some missing newspaper issues resulting in gaps in the index data.
