About Cache County, Utah Civil Case Files, 1860-1887

In 1852 the Probate Court of Utah was granted jurisdiction over civil, criminal, and chancery cases, in addition to its jurisdiction over estate and guardianship matters. In 1874, jurisdiction over everything but divorce and probate cases was revoked from the Probate Court. In 1887, jurisdiction over divorce cases was revoked from the Probate Court as well. This database is an index to the civil case files under the jurisdiction of the Probate Court for Cache County from 1860 to 1887. These files do not include probate or estate cases, but do include divorce and debt cases. Information provided in this index includes the name of the individual involved in the case, whether he or she is a plaintiff or defendant, case type, filing date, and the name of the opposing party. This index was obtained from the Utah State Archives and microfilmed copies of the original case files, which this database indexes, are available for research at the Archives as part of Series # 23726.
