Salt Lake County, Utah Civil and Criminal Case Files, 1852-1887

This database is an index to civil and criminal case files for Salt Lake County, Utah from 1852-1887, which at that time were under the jurisdiction of the Probate Court. This index was obtained from the Utah State Archives and is part of Series # 373 of their collection. Most probate cases that are included in this index involve divorce and debt, but some of the others include larceny, replevin, assault, murder, appeals, and trespassing. Probate files such as guardianships, wills, and estate files that are usually associated with the Probate Court are not included in this index. Information provided in this database includes the names of the parties involved in the case, the date the case was filed, the case type, and a reference to the location of a copy of the original file located at the Archives. Most records held by the Utah State Archives are not indexed.
