About South Carolina, U.S., Clemson University Student Military Service Records, 1894-1944

From 1893 until 1955, Clemson was an all-male military institution that taught agricultural and mechanical disciplines. These records were kept of the students’ service in the military either after graduating or in the middle of their time at Clemson. The majority of the records are from World War I, but there are some training program records from World War II.

Most index lists have at least a name and class year for either cadet enrollment, officer training, or registration lists. Some also contain regiment, rank, or home address. There are also longer form individual service records that hold much more in depth information, such as:

  • Name
  • Permanent address
  • Date of enlistment or appointment
  • Training location
  • Rank and dates of rank
  • Date of discharge
  • Organizations served with
  • Overseas service
  • Battles and engagements
  • Wounded
  • Citations and decorations
