Jay S. Cooke, 70, of 232 N. Delaware, died in a local hospital Sunday evening following an extended illness. A native of Washington, he was born in Ellensburg, January 25, 1896. He came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin N. Cooke, to the Colockum area when very young. He attended the local schools and was graduated from Wenatchee High School. He served in the Armed Forces during World War I.
Mr. Cooke married Hazel Lundell [Doughatry] in Wenatchee. She preceded him in death in 1923. Mr. Cooke moved to Alaska and attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, majoring in geology. He was employed by the Government of Alaska under civil service.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Mr. Cooke captured goats in Cordova, Alaska, for transplant to the Olympic Peninsula in 1927. He married Fannie Ashepak in Bethel, Alaska, October 1, 1947. Mr. Cooke worked for the Federal Aviation Agency for 10 years before his retirement in 1959. He returned to Wenatchee in 1963, due to ill health.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife, Fannie Cooke, at home; a cousin, Mrs. Edna Dennis, Wenatchee, and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be announced by the Jones & Jones Funeral Home. [Interment in Wenatchee Cemetery]
